Sport for All

Our sporting vision is child centred. We want all our children, regardless of their abilities to enjoy their sports sessions, experience the benefits of match days and controlled competition, develop their knowledge and skills and leave us with a love and passion for a variety of sports.

Sporting Confidence

Learn, Develop, Perform

To facilitate this athlete centred approach, we have developed a 3-part coaching ethos – Learn, Develop and Perform.

We believe that developing personal, social and physical skills through a broad sports curriculum enables our children to flourish both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our diverse programme of sports activities develops pupils' confidence and resilience through physical, technical and mental stimulus, and exposure to teamwork and leadership opportunities.

Each week, children spend at least 4.5 hours within the Physical Education, Swimming or Games curriculum. In addition to curriculum sports, pupils are also encouraged to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular sports.

Athletic Facilities

Our extensive facilities include 7 football pitches, 6 rugby pitches, 3 cricket squares, a hockey astroturf, 7 outdoor netball courts, an indoor swimming pool, outdoor cricket nets and 6 tennis courts. Our indoor facility boasts 2 cricket nets, 3 badminton courts, a netball court, a basketball court, indoor hockey, futsal & football, along with the capability to set up trampolines, table tennis and other games.

Curriculum & Activities

From Early Years to Year 2, children enjoy specialist PE & Games lessons led by the Director of Sport and Prep School coaching staff.  All year groups benefit from using the extensive sports facilities at the school.  We have a varied and challenging PE Curriculum where all pupils participate in Swimming, Basketball, Gymnastics, Dance and Health Related Fitness.

Combine this alongside our lunch & break time and after school activities programme we are proud to be able to offer the children the opportunity to try over 20 different sports at Wellington College Prep.

All children, irrespective of their particular sporting talents, are encouraged to represent the school or section in regular competitive fixtures. We are proud of our achievement in promoting every child in Years 3 to 8 to confidently represent the school on match days. Many children go on to achieve success at both County and National level and we regularly achieve sports scholarships to senior schools.
